Hi folks and thanks in advance for your answers and comments.
I would like to know if investing time and money improving my VB2005 programming skills can really be a rewarding endeavour over the long run?.. And, is it really true that VB2005 has become too similar and almost equally powerful as Visual C++ and C#? Can this really be so??
Can Visual BASIC 2005 really make a good programming career for someone?
VB.NET 2005 is as powerful as C#. This is true, however the demand on C# coders is much higher.
I advise you to go for C#. You can even find more resources for C# on the Internet than VB.NET.
Hope this helps.
Reply:there is no demand for VB
But study dotNet as a full package or look into java platform starting from JSP and so on.
Reply:Yeah, you can make a good programming career using VB.net but more importantly you should focus on the .net platform so you can use and understand things like C# and Asp.net, and programming in general. VB.net will be a good staple for writing business apps, but there's so much more you can do, like learning C++ and learning all about how computers and programming relate. Also, many studies have shown that C# programmers tend to get paid better, even though you can write the exact same app in VB.net.
Reply:Study Concepts rather than the language
Reply:I know of several businesses where I live that use VB. I would reccomend using C++ or java though, employers value these higher than they do VB.
This doesn't mean though that VB isn't rewarding, I use VB a lot, and I really enjoy it.
